Problemen? / Problems?

Vandaag hadden we heel wat meer gepland dan gedaan.  Want we ontdekten iets wat misschien het hele project op de helling zet... / There stood a lot more on the agenda for today, than we've done.  Because we discovered something that might undermine the whole project.

Tim is in de weer met gipsrolletjes. / Tim is using bandages of plaster.

Want we gingen touwen rond onze wotel wikkelen. / Because, we wanted to put ropes around our root.

Waarvan we de eindjes met gips vastkleven. / We 'glue' the ends of a rope with plaster.

Zo doen wij dat. / That's the way we do it.

Zo werken wij samen: ik houd drie eindjes koord vast, terwijl Tim ze in elkaar vlecht. / We work together like this: I'm holding three ends of ropes while Tim braids them.

Tot we aan dit resultaat kwamen. / Until we reach this result.

Maar, toen viel me iets op.  De achterste poot van de wortel steunt niet op de plaat, waarop al onze stenen gelijmd zijn.  Dus, het gaat zeer moeilijk worden (onmogelijk, volgens mij) om deze constructie in de bak te krijgen.  Daarnaast ontdekten we ook dat onze stenen te lang zijn om zomaar in de bak geplaatst te worden (5 cm).  Door deze twee tegenslagen zonk de moed ons letterlijk in de schoenen. / But then, we discovered that the root made the rocks (as a whole) wider.  We measured it and indeed, the whole structure was 5 cm too wide to fit the hole on top of the aquarium.  Besides that, we discovered too, that the rocks were 5 cm too long to fit into that same hole.  By those two setbacks, we lost all courage.

Nu, er zijn drie mogelijkheden.
1. De wortels worden bij de installatie van het decor op onze stenen gekit.  Deze mogelijkheid heeft als nadeel dat de stenen en wortels niet als een geheel geairbrushd kunnen worden.  Maar, dat valt op te lossen door de stenen eerst te airbrushen en ze dan samen met de wotels nog eens te airbrushen.  Zolang de gebruikte kleuren niet te hard verschillen tussen de eerste en tweede keer airbrushen, is deze methode ook een methode waar we mee kunnen leven.
2. We maken een nieuwe wortel die wel binnen de grenzen van de plaat blijft.
3.  Onze stenen worden definitief te lang bevonden om in de bak geplaatst te worden.  Dit wil zeggen dat we kunnen herbeginnen van scratch met dit decor (wil ik momenteel nog niet aan denken).
Now, there are three possibilities:
1. The roots will get glued on the rocks, on the day of the installation of the background in the tank.  This possibility has the disadvantage that the roots and the rocks no longer can be airbrushed together.  But, this disadvantage can be solved by airbrushing first the rocks and then the rocks and the roots together.  As long as we use the same colours during the first time and the second time of airbrushing, the roots don't need to be glued on exact the same positions as we have them, while we're airbrushing.  Because, we both know that it's going to be impossible to glue them on exact the same positions.
2. We make a new root who stays within the limits of the plate on which we glued the rocks.
3. Our rocks are to be found definitively too long to put in the tank.  That means that we will need to start over with this decor (I refuse to think about it, yet).
