Epoxy en Tegellijm. / Epoxy and Tile Adhesive.

Zo vond ik het werk dat op me lag te wachten. / This is the work waiting on me.

Plaat 3. / Plate 3.

En een stukje van een nieuwe Styrodur-plaat 30x35 cm groot.  Het is de bedoeling dat hierop de kruik zal staan. / A piece of a new Styrodur-plate, 30 by 35 cm.  It is the intention that on this plate our jar will stand.

Op het programma vandaag: plaat 3 epoxyceren (twee lagen op de achterkant) en de nieuwe plaat rondom rond bettegellijmen. / Today, I'm going to coat plate 3 with epoxy (2 layers on the backside) and put glue for tiles on the new plate.

Ik heb nog 1 pot van 2 kilo geprepareerde tegellijm staan (ruim voldoende dus). / I still have left 2 kilos of prepared glue for tiles.

M'n eerste doos handschoenen is op.  Ik open de tweede.  Dit wil zeggen dat al 200 handschoenen gebruikt zijn. / The first box of gloves is finished.  I open the second one.  So, 200 gloves are used.

Goed, ik begin eraan.  Plaat 3 na 80 gr epoxy. / Good, I start with it.  Plate 3 after 80 gram of epoxy.

En de nieuwe plaat bettegellijmd (al 1 zijde en de zijkanten). / And the new plate is coated with glue for tiles (one side).

Niet dat dit me erg helpt die pot soldaat te maken... / Not that this is very helpful to finish my supply...

Terwijl deze platen liggen te drogen, zal ik het over iets anders hebben. / While these plates are drying, I will talk about something else.

Hoera, hoera, hoera!  M'n mal is gerepareerd!  (Ik had 2 winkelhaken nodig voor iets anders.) / Yippie!  My mould is repaired!

Dit stelt mij in de gelegenheid om, voor het eerst, de beide hoeken te presenteren, op hun plaats in de mal. / This opens the possibility to present both the corners on their right place in the mould.

Hier wordt verondersteld plaat 3 te zitten.  Maar, daar werk ik nu aan.  Het zal voor binnen 3 dagen zijn... / Plate 3 is supposed to be here.  But, I'm working on plate 3.  It will be for within 3 days.

Goed, het is tijd voor de tweede ronde.  Na de tweede laag epoxy ziet plaat 3 er zo uit. / Alright, it's time for a second round.  After the second layer, plate 3 looks like this.

En, m'n nieuwe plaatje is rondom rond betegellijmd. / And, my new plate is coated with glue for tiles.

Morgen volgen twee lagen epoxy aan de voorkant van plaat 3 en het schilderen van m'n 30x35 cm plaatje.  Tot dan. / Tomorrow follow two layers on the front of plate 3 and painting my new plate.

De Kracht van Turf! / The Power of Peat!

Vandaag was het de tijd voor de beruchte derde laag epoxy.  Ofwel, de afwerking van plaat 4 en 5. / Today, it was time for the infamous third layer of epoxy.  Or, finishing plate 4 and 5.

Ondertussen ligt plaat 4 op me te wachten. / In the meantime, plate 4 is waiting on me.

Na 80 gr epoxy ziet de turf er zo uit. / After 80 gr epoxy, the peat looks like this.

Voor de rest hebben we turfbrij nodig.  Hoe maak je turfbrij? / For the rest, I need porridge of peat.  How does one make porridge of peat?

Je begint met ongeveer 35 gr gedroogde turf af te wegen. / You start by weighing approximately 35 gr of dried peat.

Daarna mix je 80 gr epoxy. / Then, you mix 80 gr of epoxy.

Dan giet je de epoxy over de gedroogde turf en begint te roeren, tot je dit bekomt: turfbrij. / You pour the epoxy over the peat and mixes them until you get this: porridge of peat.

Resultaat. / Result.

De gaten en het gedeelte onderaan de bak worden vrijgehouden voor de kunstmatige wortels en artifiecele rotsen.  De fijna afwerking zal in de bak gebeuren, wanneer het decor in de bak geplakt wordt. / The holes in the peat and the space towards the bottom is left free for the artificial roots and rocks.

Dit geeft je ook een realistische schatting wat je met 80 gr epoxy en 35 gr gedroogde turf kunt verwezenlijken. / This gives you a realistic idea of the space you can occupy with 35 gr of peat and 80 gr of epoxy.

Over het algemeen is gedroogde turf een zeer dankbaar structuurelement.  Het is makkelijk te epoxyceren, de epoxy vormt geen zuurstofbelletjes, als je ermee bezig bent, de droogtijd voor epoxy verkort en het is fascinerend om te merken hoe de epoxy door de turf wordt opgezogen. / In general, peat is a very good structural element to use.  It's easy to coat with epoxy, the epoxy gets no airbubbles when you're working on peat and the time it needs to dry, gets shortened.

Een Combinatie die Werkt. / A Good Combination.

Dit is de dakplaat van m'n afgebroken Tanga-bak.  Daar vond ik de zo goed als enige algen die deze bak gekregen had in al de tijd dat hij draaiende is.  Algen, bovendien, die erg gelijken op de laatste kleur waarmee ik algen spuit: olijf-groen. / This is a plate (the roof) of my Tanganyika-tank, that has to leave my appartement, because it weighs too much, where it's posionted.  There, I found the as good as only algae that developped during all the time that this tank was in use.  And, these algae have a colour that is almost identical of the colour that I use as last, when I spray algae: light olive-green.

En, er waren nog stukken bij die geen epoxy gezien hadden. / And, there were spots that didn't get coated with epoxy.

Dit is plaat 4.  Ook hier nog enkele stukken die geen epoxy gezien hadden.  Maar, het lukte mijn camera niet om erop scherp te stellen. / This is plate 4.  There are here some spots too, but my camera refused to focus on them (I have a cheap camera, what can one do?).

We gaan dus door naar de resultaten: epoxy en turf, een combinatie die werkt.  /  So, we go directly to the results: epoxy and peat, a good combination.

Vandaag platen 4 en 5 geepoxuceerd (een eerste laag, althans). / Today I coated plates 4 and 5 with epoxy (at least, a first layer).
