Situatie Aquarium en Mary-Ann. / Situation Aquarium and Mary-Ann.

Na een periode van langer dan drie maanden wachten, is deze week ein-de-lijk de dagploeg gearriveerd.  Ik heb wel de Gymnogeophagus balzanii moeten wisselen voor de Heros notatus, aangezien de balzanii niet verkocht wordt in Vlaanderen.  Maar, de Sturisoma panamese en de Macrognathus aculeatus zitten, samen met Heros notatus, in m'n bak.  Zij vervolledigen m'n visbestand, want de nachtploeg (de Erpetoichthys calabaricus en de Agamyxis pectinifrons) zat er al van augustus in.

After a period of loger than three months of waiting, this week has finally arrived my day shift.  I've needed to change the Gymnogeophagus balzanii for the Heros notatus, because the balzanii doesn't get sold in Flanders.  However, the Sturisoma panamese and the Macrognathus aculeatus are in my tank, together with the Heros notatus.  They complete my collection of fish, because the night shift (the Erpetoichthys calabaricus and the Agamyxis pectinifrons) was already present in my aquarium, since August.


Verder zullen we zien hoe het afgelopen is met de Mary-Ann, want ik vond de juist stukken niet om het scheepje te bouwen.

Furthermore, we shall see how the story with the Mary-Ann ends, because I didn't find the right pieces to build the ship.

Dit is een roofvis uit Afrika uit de Bicchir-familie, één van de oudste vissenfamilies op deze planeet…  Hij wordt 40 cm… / This a preditorial fish of the Bicchir-family who lives only in Africa…  The Bicchir-family is one of the oldest families of freshwater fish on this planet…  He gets to be 40 cm…

De Erpetoichthys calabaricus is de enige binnen de Bicchir-familie die dit aal-achtig uiterlijk heeft.  Geen van de Bicchirs is hem in zijn voorbeeld gevolgd. / The Erpetoichthys calabaricus is the only one within the Bicchir-family that acquired this eel-like appearance…  None of the other Bicchirs has followed the Erpetoichthys calabaricus in his example…

Deze vis stelt geen bijzondere eisen op het gebied van water en hij beperkt zijn activiteiten tot de nacht… / This fish doesn’t have specials demands in regard of water and he limits his activities mostly during the night…

Hier verdwijnt hij onder het het stuk hout… / Here, he disappears under a piece of wood…

Om langs de andere kant terug te keren… / Only to reappear on the other side…

En, er dan vandoor te gaan… / And, then he’s off…

Dit visje is de Macrognathus aculeatus, een vertegenwoordig uit de Aal-familie, die in het Verre-Oosten voorkomt…  Hij wordt 40 cm… / This fish is called the Macrognathus aculeatus, a representative from the family of eels, that lives in the Far-East…  He gets to be 40 cm…

Het is een sociale aalsoort, dus kunnen ze met meerdere exemplaren gehouden…  Ook de Macrognathus aculeatus heeft bijzonder weinig aanpassingsproblemen aan Europees leidingwater… / It is a social sort of eel, so multiple specimens can be kept together…  The Macrognathus aculeatus has no problems with adapting to European tap-water…

Deze zit wat te weifelen aan een stukje vis… / This one is doubting whether he would engage a piece of fish…

Daar heeft deze geen moeite mee… / Clearly, this one has no problem with it…

Hier zien jullie twee Macrognathus aculeatuse in het gezelschap van één Heros notatus… / Here, you can see two Macrognathus aculeatus in the company of one Heros notatus…

Dit visje is één van de zes Heros notatus, die in de bak zitten…  Hij komt uit Zuid-Amerika, is een familielid van de cichliden, wordt 25 cm en zal de koning van deze bak worden… / This fish is one of the six Heros notatus, that are now in the tank…  The Heros notatus comes from South-America, is a member of the family of cichlids, gets to be 25 cm and will become the king of the tank…

Het is de bedoeling dat er één kweekkoppel Heros notatus zal overblijven…  Want dit visje heeft niet de minste moeite met Europees leidingwater… / It’s my intention that there will be one breeding-couple in the tank, when they become adult…  ‘Cause the Heros notatus has no problem whatsoever with European tap-water…

De Heros notatus-jongeren zien er op het moment nog niet uit, maar dat zal veranderen als ze groter worden…  Hier zien jullie hem samen met een Macrognathus… / The young Heros notatus aren’t very pretty, right now…  But, that will change as they grow older…  Here, you can see it together with a Macrognathus…

Het is jammer dat deze foto onscherp is, want één van m’n Heros notatus is al volledig op kleur… / It’s a pity that this picture isn’t focussed correctly…  ‘Cause one of my Heros notatus is already showing his colours…

Maar jullie krijgen er nu toch al een idee van hoe hij eruit zal zien… / Anyway, you have an idea now about how the Heros will look like…

Dit is de Sturisoma panamese, een algeneter uit Zuid-Amerika die 25 cm lang wordt… / This is the Sturisoma panamese…  He eates algae, comes from South-America and gets to be 25 cm…

Algeneters trekken zich over het algemeen niets aan van wat er in hun omgeving gebeurt en gaan gewoonlijk hun eigen weg… / Fish that eat algae usually don’t care what happens in the tank and go their own way…

Zo weten jullie hoe zij eruit zien… / Now, you know how the Sturisoma panamese looks like…

Deze Sturisoma panamese zet jammer genoeg zijn hoge rug vin niet op…  Dat zal dan voor later zijn… / This one doesn’t show its high fin, that is located on its back…  That will be for another time…

Zo, nu hebben jullie alle visjes gezien die in mijn bak zitten…  Op de Agamyxis pectinifrons na… / So, now you’ve seen all the fish that are in my tank…  Except for the Agamyxis pectinifrons…

Maar, dat zijn echte nachtvisjes die zich overdag niet laten zien… / But, that a real nocturnal fish that doesn’t show itself during the daytime…

Een multicultureel onderonsje… / A multicultural happening…

Wie zei ook alweer dat vissen uit verschillende continenten niet konden samenleven in één aquarium..? / Who said that fish from different continents couldn’t live together in one aquarium..?

Zoals jullie ongetwijfeld nog herinneren, had ik deze stukken al gevonden. / As you remember without any doubt, I had found these two pieces.

Ik heb ondertussen deze twee vermiste stukken gevonden. / In the meantime, I've found these two missing pieces.

Het enige probleem is dat ze 50 cm lang zijn, i.p.v. de vereiste 39 cm.  Ik heb een ijzerzaag maar durf deze niet te gebruiken.  Een oplossing wordt gezocht. / The only problem is that they're 50 cm long, in stead of the wanted 39 cm.  I have a hacksaw but don't dare to use it on wood.  I'm looking for a sollution.
