Het einde van het één... / The end of one thing...

Vanmorgen ben ik begonnen met dit tweede doosje zijn tweede laag te geven. / This morning, I started with giving this box its second layer.

Ziezo, het verhaal van de doosjes is bijna geschreven. / So, the story of the boxes is almost written.

Ik had gezegd dat op er op maandag een tweede poging werd ondernomen om de bak met water te vullen.  Zo is ook gebeurd.

I've told you that there would be a second attempt to fill the aquarium with water on Monday.  And, so happened...

Morgen of overmorgen staat de eerste waterwisseling van 90% op het programma.  En, vrijdag zou ik graag een tweede doen.  Na de derde, volgende week maandag, gaat er 8 kilo zout in de bak en blijft het water gedurende 1 week in de bak.  Nadien begint het spoelen.

Tomorrow or the day after, I'll change the water in aquarium by 90%.  And, Friday, I'll do the same.  After a third change of water of 90%, on Monday next week, there will be put 8 kilos of salt in the aquarium And the water remains in the tank during one week.  After that, the rincing begins.

Conclusie: m'n bak lijkt minder troebel te worden met de dag.  Tot hiertoe houdt alles en iedereen zich aan de verwachtingen.  Maar, het is nog te vroeg om eureka te roepen.

Conclusion: my tank seems to get less cloudy by the day.  So far, everything and everybody is meeting the expectations.  But, it's still too early to be sure.

Een update over m'n aquarium. / An update about my aquarium.

Ziezo, zo stond m'n bak er gisteren bij: / Yesterday, my tank looked like this:

Zoals jullie kunnen zien, van eventuele schimmel- of algensporen is niets meer over.  De zout-therapie heeft dus gewerkt. / As you all can see, there's nothing left of the mold and algae, which bothered me.  The addition of 12 kilo salt (about 20 gram per liter) has done the trick and has killed every living organism.

De groene schijn in het water wordt veroorzaakt door een dosis Fungol (van JBL) en een dosis Mercurochrome.  Dit is bij het water toegevoegd voor in geval van... / The green haze in the water is caused by a dose of Fungol (of JBL) and a dose of mercurochrome.  This is added by the water, in case of...


Volgende week wissel ik het water (50 %) en de week nadien komen er plantjes en slakjes in.  Het plantenbestand dat erin gaat komen:
4x Valisneria gigantea.
4x Cyperus helferi.
7x Echinodorus laetifolius
7x Anubias barteri
2x Anubias hastifolia

Dus, de zaken staan bijna terug op de rails.  We zijn er nog niet, maar de verbetering is duidelijk.
Volgens ons (Eric en ik) is er tegelijkertijd op die fronten gestreden.
1. Waardoor weten we niet met zekerheid (maar waarschijnlijk hebben de Anubiassen te koud gelegen, ergens in het transport van Nederland) zijn de Anubiassen allemaal beginnen rotten eenmaal ze in m'n bak zaten.  Dit heeft rottingsbacterien veroorzaakt en de schimmels gevoed.
2. Daarnaast is er tegelijkertijd een chemische reactie geweest van het aquariumwater met m'n decor.  Op een handvol plaatsen is er een witte brij uit het decor gekomen (erg weinig, maar het was er wel).  Dus, ons volgende project gaan we nog beter epoxyceren, alhoewel het de vraag is in hoeverre je een decor als het onze wel voor 100% waterdicht krijgt en niet voor 99.999999999999% zoals nu het geval is.  In elk geval werden er geen toxische producten gebruikt op de plekken waar de witte brij verscheen, dus dat zit wel snor.
3. Door de verkeerde verlichting te gebruiken (T8 Phillips 840) en aangemoedigd door het rotten der Anubiassen ontstonden er draadalgen.  We hebben de verlichting veranderd in 4x Phillips T8 827, omdat ze de 830 niet meer hebben in T8-versie.  Maar, dit is in orde, aangezien dit type lampen ook gebruikt werden om mijn Tanga-bak te verlichten en er daar, na 1 jaar, nog geen alg te bespeuren viel.

So, we've got everything back on track.  The improvement is visible.  According to us (Erik and I) the fight was on three fronts simultaniously.
1. We don't know what caused it (probably the Anubiasses have been stored too cold during their transport from the Netherlands), but it remains a fact that the Anubiasses all started to rot once we've put them in my tank.  This caused en fed the mold.
2. Besides that, there has been a chemical reaction of the water with the background.  On very small spots there has come a white mush out of the background (very small portions only, but it was there).  So, for my next project I'm going to use even more epoxy.  Although it remains an open question whether you actually can make a background like mine for 100% waterproof and not for 99.999999% like now is the case.  In any case there were no toxic products used on the spots where the white mush appeared, so we think that it will be alright.
3. By using the wrong lamps (T8 Phillips 840) and cheered on by the rotting plants, a certain type of algae.  We have changed the lamps to 4x T8 Phillips 827, because they don't make the 830 as a T8 anymore.  But, this is alright since I used the same lamps on my Tanga-tank and that has run for over 1 year without giving any algae.


Het werd dus tijd om te stekker uit de pries te trekken en in te grijpen.  Dat hebben we gedaan en het lijkt effectief te zijn geweest.  De verwachting is dat de bak zich nu rustig houdt.

So, it became time to pull the plug.  We have done exactly that by adding 20 kilo of salt in the water.  It looks to be effective.  The expectations are that my tank gives no more problems.

Gisteren was een dag die met horten en stoten verliep.  Ik was namelijk van plan om nog een paar extra-schabben tegen de muur te plaatsen.  Maar, Tim was vergeten Eddy hiervan op de hoogte te brengen...

Yesterday was day which started rather difficult.  I was intending to hang a few extra-shelves against the wall.  But, Tim was forgotten to tell Eddy...

 

 

 

Dus, eerst moest er boor gekocht worden om te kunnen boren.  Aan de rechterzijde zien jullie de doos ervan, opengeslagen. / So, first, I went to the shop to buy a drill.  To the right side you can all find the box for it.

 

Eddy aan het werk, voor eventjes toch... / Eddy working, for a bit at least...

 

Dan een pijnlijke vaststelling.  We komen pluggen en vijzen tekort.  Ik dus terug naar de winkel. / Then, an embarrassing moment.  We find out that we lack plugs and screws.  So, I go again to the shop.

 

Als ik terug ben, kan Eddy eindelijk beginnen. / When I'm back, Eddy can finally start.

 

 

Met m'n nieuwe 'rikketik', bijvoorbeeld, waarvan de doos geopend op m'n bureau staat. / With my new 'rikketik', for instance, for which the box on my desk is opened.

Eerste vaststelling: de Echonidorussen hebben de trip vanuit Nederland goed weten te doorstaan.  De Anubiassen niet.  Deze laatste zullen dan ook vervangen worden.

First conclusion: the Echinodorus plants have survived the trip from the Netherlands.  The Anubias plants are not so fortunate en will be replaced.

Tweede vaststelling: inderdaad er zitten enkele sporen van schimmel in mij bak.  Het is niet veel, het groeit (tot hiertoe) niet uit maar het zit in de weg en gaat er dus uit moeten.  Eventueel met een waterconditioner die ze gebruiken bij waterbedden.  Maandag heb ik afgesproken met Eric.  Zien wat er dan uit de bus komt.

Second conclusion: The are indeed signs of mold in my tank.  It isn't much, it isn't growing (so far), bit it is there and it has to leave.  Perhaps, I'll use a conditioner of water like they use in water beds.  I've agreed with Efric that he drops by on monday.  We'll see what comes out of that meeting.

Derde vaststelling: na hier langer dan 8 maanden gestaan te hebben, ziet m'n aquarium er niet uit en moet dringend gekuist worden.  Opnieuw: maandag zal dit gebeuren.

Third conclusion: after standing here for longer than 8 months, my aquarium really needs a thorough cleanup.

Vierde vaststelling: er is sprake van enige algvorming .  Is 840 echt wel nodig?  Kun je niet met enkel 830 werken?  M'n lampen moeten trouwens vervangen worden.

Fourth conclusion: There are some algae.  Is 840 really necessary?  Can't you work with 830 alone?  My lamps need to be replaced, anyway...

Conclusie: we zijn er nog niet helemaal, met deze bak.  Maar, ik ben ervan overtuigd dat we er weldra zullen geraken... 

Final conclusion: We're not there, yet, with this tank.  But, I'm convinced we will reach that point in the nearby future.
